360 degree technology making an impact on Social Media

2016 is the year that 360 degree video and photography has really propelled. Google street-view has been around for a few years now and it’s safe to say that we all have made use of this great technology and yes we have to see our own house looks like as well as using it for directions.

It’s no wonder that Facebook have launched their 360 degree options for their users.

So how does it work:

A new gyroscope animation will alert users and tell that content is different as they scroll through their news feed. Another feature is helper animation which prompts people to move their phone if they haven’t tapped the device after four seconds. Also added is a heading indicator which shows the view the current direction of view relative to the video’s initial orientation. Tapping this indicator will reset the direction of the view and also the zoom level.

The Tourism industry as really grasped the use of 360 degree video technology, there are impressive video on Fáilte Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way website showing some stunning scenes along the west coast of Ireland. Personally I loved the horse riding at Streedagh beach in Sligo.

The USA Today YouTube channel boasts an impressive 360 degree video of the USA Navy flight exhibition team; the Blue Angels, its enough to make you feel as if you’re in Top Gun, bonus points for singing you’ve lost that loving feeling.

Closer to home check out the impressive Doolin 2 Aran Ferries website for their take on 360 degree imagery and please get in touch with the team at OSD Digital Agency for more information on 360 degree imagery and video at our new address hello@digitalmarketing.ie
